Fiddle Group Lessons

Ever wanted to learn to play the fiddle, but can't afford weekly lessons?

I am offering a Fiddle group class to all ages and all levels of experience. It meets Thursday nights at my studio in South Hadley, MA (a couple miles south of Mt Holyoke). We are learning all sorts of cool things about the fiddle and playing a variety of different styles including classical, baroque and romantic; bluegrass, celtic and folk music.

Here are some frequently asked questions about the group:

Find Out More On Facebook

I have created a Facebook Group for the Fiddle Group Class.  If you have a Facebook account, it's easy to request membership.  If you're a student, membership is free!

We use the Facebook group to talk about the group classes, review them and upload and share any recordings, pictures or other information that the members of the group will find helpful during the week.  It's also a great place to ask questions and help each other out.

First Sunday Jam Sessions

I run an informal acoustic music jam session out of my home in South Hadley.  It's the first Sunday of each month from about 1pm until about 4.  Anybody can come.  If the weather is nice, we sit outside.  If it's cold or rainy, we're inside.  Please RSVP so I know how many chairs to set out!  There's limited seating inside the house, so let me know in advance.

We sit in a circle and go around.  Each person suggests a tune or a song to play and starts it.  We use the Portland Collection, the Fiddler's Fakebook and Bill Matthieson's Waltz books.  We encourage singing!

Any instrument is welcome as long as its acoustic.  There is no place to plug in outside.  We also are not fond of percussion instruments other than bodhrans, hand percussion or dumbecks.

Please come!  And an audience is welcome.  You never know who may show up and it is always entertaining!
