Guitar Lessons

I have a BA in music from Hampshire College and a certificate in violin from the New England Conservatory of Music. I opened my studio in 1986.   Please click here for important information about rates and policies.

  • Lessons include a variety of classical, jazz, and folk styles including Celtic, Klezmer and Bluegrass, Irish, Scottish, English, Contra, southern/Appalachian/old-time, Texas Swing, and Cape Breton.
  • My method is to teach people to play beautiful music with the best tone and no discomfort. I use the Suzuki Method for children, and teach adults to read and play by ear.
  • For beginners, the focus is on how to hold the instrument, make a good sound, play in tune, and learn to play a few scales and a few tunes.
  • For more advanced players, the focus is on building a repertoire of tunes in a particular style or styles, picking patterns, ornamentation, chords and harmonies, and playing with a good danceable rhythm.

I have performed for literally hundreds of weddings, ceremonies and private parties since the 1980s.  I can assemble just about any style of music for your special event, but specialize in Celtic, Bluegrass and Klezmer music.  Visit the links below to find out more:

Booking, Marketing & Counseling for Musicians

I opened my band management services in 1998, offering booking, marketing and counseling for musicians.  Since then, I have worked with the Old Blind Dogs (from Scotland), Sliabh Notes (from Ireland), The Bounty (Cape Breton), Persephone's Child (Binghamton) and many others. 

If you would like me to book your band, send me an email with links to your ReverbNation or Myspace pages, Youtube channel, Facebook pages or other pages where I can see pictures of you and hear your stuff.  I work on a verbal handshake agreement.  You only pay me for gigs I get you.  If you don't get paid, I don't get paid. 

I offer online PR and Marketing services.  If you don't have those pages I mentioned set up, for a small fee, I can do that for you.  I will set up your Facebook, ReverbNation, GigSalad, GigMasters, Myspace, and Youtube pages.

Many bands just getting started have no clue about how to go about the business of  running a band.  I also offer Counseling services to bands that need a little TLC.
